Interests: Dr William Fawcett RIBA is a chartered architect with experience in practice, teaching, research and consultancy. Since his appointment to the Chadwick Fellowship in Pembroke College in 2005 he has been developing the Activity-Space Research initiative at the Martin Centre, the research division of the University Department of Architecture. Through case studies and mathematical simulations, this research initiative is investigating the changing demands made on commercial, educational and institutional buildings as a result of new workstyles and mobile telecoms. The findings will be relevant to both architectural design and building management. Other areas of activity include conservation plans for historic buildings, surveys of buildings in use, brief-writing for new building projects, rule-based generation of designs, and the evaluation of sustainable investment in construction. Work on the last topic led to the recent book 'New Generation Whole-life Costing' (co-author Ian Ellingham, 2006).
