The Main Gate

The Main GatePembroke College was founded in 1347 and is one of the oldest of the colleges that make up the University of Cambridge. Although none of the original buildings survive, the main gate shown here and the accompanying Old Library incorporate parts of the original court of the Foundress, The Countess of Pembroke. The gateway retains its ancient form and is the oldest surviving college entrance in Cambridge.

Walk to the left to see the Old Library, from Trumpington Street.

Turn to the right to see Trumpington Street Facade, looking south.

Cross the road and go through the gate to see Old Court, facing the Hall.

Cross the road, go through the gate and head immediately right to see the Porters' Lodge.
