Applying
Most applications for admission as graduate students are made through the Board of Graduate Studies, the University body for processing applications from graduates. Some courses are administered separately, and have different application procedures.
Courses administered by the Board of Graduate Studies
The research degree Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) which is usually a three-year course and is available in all Faculties and Departments;
M.Sc. or M.Litt. - according to subject, a research degree normally taking two years. In Cambridge the M.A. is not available as a postgraduate qualification (find out why here).
One year M.Phil. courses in a variety of subjects which can, in appropriate circumstances, count towards the requirements for the research degrees (Ph.D., M.Sc. or M.Litt.).
One year research diplomas and certificates which can count towards the requirements for a research degree.
Other degrees, diplomas and certificates which are full time courses but do not count towards the requirements for a research degree. They are all for one year.
