Visiting Pembroke

If you would like to know more about Pembroke before applying, you are welcome at one of our regular Open Days. Here you can meet teaching Fellows, the Admissions Tutors and - most important - current undergraduates. Please note that there is a closing date for applications and in particular, the July days fill up quickly. Find out more about the format of the days, or book a place on one of our Open Days.

Please note: Pembroke does not admit students in Geography or Education Studies.

Other visits

We are open to visitors every day between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm and you are most welcome to walk around the College grounds: no appointment is needed. The exception is during the examination period in May and June when the College is closed to visitors.

School/colleges are most welcome to arrange a small group visit, and accommodation can sometimes be provided outside term-time. For students travelling from Scotland and Northern Ireland, we can usually provide accommodation provided that plenty of notice is given.

Will I be disadvantaged at Admissions if I do not visit the College beforehand?

We are often asked this question! We do not give 'pre-interviews' or in other ways make preliminary assessments of prospective candidates who visit us. It is in no way a disadvantage not to have visited the College before applying.

Advice to Parents

You may wish to come to Cambridge with your son or daughter, and you are most welcome to walk around the College and explore the gardens when you arrive. However, the Open Days get very crowded and we cannot really accommodate parents in the formal programme. We do, however, arrange an informal parents' 'Question & Answer' session and a tour of the College. We do not like to turn enthusiastic students away if at all possible. It is important that we are able to give each visitor some personal attention and have time to answer individual questions.

Advice to teachers

Teachers are most welcome to visit the College at any time, by appointment with the Admissions Tutor. It is difficult to give much time to individual teachers at the July and September Open Days but we are always pleased to make personal contact.

Parking

Cambridge is a wonderful place to explore. However, its streets can be very congested and parking is a real problem; in fact cars are excluded from much of the city centre. We encourage the use of the highly efficient Park & Ride arrangements.

The Tourist Information Centre is situated in the Guildhall and the entrance to the Centre is on Peas Hill, which is about five minutes' walk from the College. The telephone number is (01223) 322640.
