Annual Fund 2011-2012
The Annual Fund was created in 2000 in response to feedback from Members during Phase 1 that they would like to give to a fund where their donation would be used to meet the College's immediate needs. The Annual Fund aggregates a large number of Members' donations to make a significant impact on the College's routine needs in support of the Junior Members.
As its name suggests, the Annual Fund is a yearly approach to all its Members. As part of this approach an yearly fortnight-long telephone campaign takes place at the end of September.
By making a gift to the Annual Fund, you are supporting every aspect of College life. While Pembroke is especially grateful for unrestricted gifts, which can be used forareas of greatest need, it is also possible to direct a gift towards a specific activity.
The Annual Fund helps to underwrite three general areas of expenditure:
- Pembroke Students - Pembroke admits purely on a "needs-blind" basis and must continue to strengthen and extend the range of help it offers its students. It is acutely aware of the effects that changes to Higher Education since 1998 have had on Junior Members, most notably through the introduction of "top-up" tuition fees and the abolition of student grants; for potential candidates the idea of leaving university with over £20,000 in debt is a very daunting prospect. In the absence of such state support the College must ensure that its students do not struggle unduly.
- Teaching and Research - Pembroke is proud that it is able to attract leading academics to teach individual and small-group supervisions to its students, the centrepiece of a Cambridge education. This strength and depth in both the sciences and the humanities is reflected in Pembroke's consistent presence in the top echelon of colleges in the Tompkins Table. The Annual Fund is vital as it enables Pembroke to recruit and retain these talented people, for example by being able to offer extra support such as the Fellows' Research Fund.
- Fabric and Facilities - Gifts made to the Annual Fund have helped to contribute to the repair and renovation of the College's buildings, ancient and modern. They also enable the College to upgrade its facilities and infrastructure continually.

Honours to Benefactors
Names of donors to the Annual Fund are included in the annual list of donors to the campaign which is sent out in May with the Martlet.
All donors are invited to the annual May Week Benefactors' Garden Party.
Additionally, annual gifts to the College valued at £1,000 or more, however, qualify the donor for membership of 'The Master's Society'.
