The 1996 Bursary
We were delighted to catch up with so many of you at the drinks reception at the National Theatre which set the tone for this anniversary year. We hope you are now looking forward to our Twenty Years On Dinner at Pembroke on Friday 16 September 2016.
As was mentioned at the National Theatre, it would be wonderful if we, the 1996 year, could collectively give something back to the College to celebrate this reunion and our lifelong connection to Pembroke.
Times have changed since we were at College and tuition and living expenses now amount to roughly £16,000 a year – this is an intimidating amount which may well deter many bright individuals from applying. By collectively raising funds to establish the 1996 Bursary, we could help one or more individuals from underprivileged backgrounds to benefit from a Pembroke education.
The Bursary will be presented to the College at our reunion dinner at Pembroke on 16 September and then awarded in October 2016 to a student from a household income of less than £12,000 in the form of a £6,000 fee waiver.
Our aim is to raise enough money to cover as many £6,000 bursaries as possible. Last year, the 1996 year managed to raise enough for four bursaries. If each of us makes a gift of £100 per year for three years to the 1996 Bursary, our year could do even better. We are already on our way as an anonymous member of the 1996 year group has pledged to match our donations to the 1996 Bursary, pound for pound, up to £6,000, and so your gift to Pembroke will be as much as doubled!
Please give whatever you can so the whole year group can present a generous 1996 Bursary to the College at our Reunion Dinner on 16th September.
We hope that we can count on your support and look forward to seeing you at the dinner.
With best wishes,
