Tax-Efficient giving to Pembroke

Pembroke College is a registered charity (No. 1137492) and so donors who pay income tax in the UK, USA or Canada can make gifts to Pembroke College tax-efficiently. It is also possible for Basic Rate UK taxpayers to boost the value of their gift to the College through the Gift Aid scheme.

Giving from the UK – Gift Aid

The Gift Aid scheme is one of the easiest ways for you make your gift tax effective while boosting the value of your donation. If you are a UK taxpayer, Pembroke can reclaim the basic rate tax at no extra cost to the donor, boosting the value of every £1 donated by 25p. If you are a higher (40%) or additional rate (45%) taxpayer you can reclaim the difference between basic rate and higher/additional rate of tax by declaring your donation in your self-assessment tax return.

Giving from the USA

USA: Tax-deductible contributions can be made to Cambridge in America and the British Schools’ and Universities’ Foundation, both 501(c)(3) organisations. When making your donation, you should recommend the allocation of your gift to Pembroke College and you may find that your company offers a matched giving programme. Contact the Development Office by email or by calling +44 (0)1223 339778 if you have any questions.

If you pay tax both in the UK and in the USA your gift can be simultaneously eligible for tax benefits in both the UK and USA by giving through Cambridge in America (UK) Ltd, a registered charity in England.

Giving from Europe

Transnational Giving Europe (TGE) is a network of national organisations allowing donors from these countries to support Pembroke while benefitting from all of the tax advantages of making a charitable donation. Donors wishing to take advantage of the service offered by TGE make their gift to their home-country foundation which then provides the donor with a tax receipt and transfers the gift to Pembroke. Click here to find out the procedure to make a gift to Pembroke via TGE. Contact the Development Office by email or by calling +44 (0)1223 339778 if you have any questions.
