Research Interests: Matt is an archaeologist and social anthropologist working on a range of topics in eastern Africa with specific focus on landscapes and communities in Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan.  The primary focus of his field research is the development of applied archaeological understandings of African farming practices, communities and landscapes over the last five hundred years but he also researches and writes on a range of other topics in African archaeology. He co-directs the Marakwet Heritage Project  and was formerly Assistant Director of the British Institute in Eastern Africa based in Nairobi Kenya. He supervises a range of topics in archaeology and lectures on the archaeology of Africa.
