Dr Michiel van Ingen

Dr Michiel van Ingen’s work is predominantly focused on two issues: the study of violence (civil war in particular) and debates within the philosophy of science (with a particular focus on critical realism). His broader interests, however, include: global/international political economy, the new materialisms, critical social and international relations theory (feminism/ gender studies and de-/post-colonial thought in particular), and methodology. Dr van Ingen completed his PhD – which was entitled ‘Rethinking Conflict Studies: Towards a Critical Realist Approach’ – at the Politics, History, and International Relations department of Loughborough University. Previously he completed the Msc Violence, Conflict, and Development at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), and a BA Combined Honours (Politics and International Relations) at the University of Westminster. He worked as a visiting lecturer at the University of Westminster between 2010 and 2016, and currently teaches at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
