Peter Martland

A graduate of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, Dr Peter Martland has held various positions at Cambridge colleges since he completed his PhD in 1992. He is a member of the Cambridge University History Faculty and offers courses for the Board of Continuing Education, Madingley Hall. He supervises undergraduate and graduate students and has been a lecturer with International Programmes at Pembroke College since 2001, offering a variety of courses to US and Japanese undergraduates for both the semester abroad and summer programmes. Originally an economic historian, he has two distinct research interests: the history of the music industry and British and American intelligence history. He is also a broadcaster and writer. His published works include: Since Records Began: EMI - the first 100 years (London, 1997); The future of the Past (London, 2002); Corpus Lives(Cambridge, 2003); Lord Haw Haw: the English voice of Nazi Germany (London, 2003); and Footprints on the sands of time (California, 2005). Between 2005 and 2009 Dr Martland was a member of the research team working on the official history of Britain’s domestic intelligence service, MI5. This work was published in 2009 by Christopher Andrew as: In defence of the realm: the authorised history of the British Security Service (London, 2009). Dr Martland’s forthcoming book is entitled Off the record: the British record industry, 1888-1931.
