Terms and Conditions
Applications and Accommodation
- Applicants under 18 will not be accepted on the Pembroke-King's Programme.
- Applications received after the deadline (1 June 2012) may be placed on a waiting list. The International Programmes Department will contact successful applicants.
- Graduate students are welcome to apply for the Pembroke-King's Programme, and are advised to check with their institution for advice about course credit for participation in the Pembroke-King's Programme. The following documents should accompany the application form:
- a copy of the final academic transcript, as issued at graduation, showing the final GPA
- a reference from the student's current employer or graduate studies professor, as appropriate
- a piece of written work that has been assessed by university teaching faculty (this could be work from the final year at college or something more recent)
- The International Programmes Department will endeavour to secure the applicant's preferred accommodation option upon receipt of the appropriate fee. Rooms are booked on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is not possible to guarantee that a room in a particular accommodation band will be available.
Courses and Teaching
- The International Programmes Department reserves the right to alter any course should illness or unavoidable changes in circumstance prevent a course instructor from teaching. The Department will make all efforts, should such an event arise, to provide a suitable substitute instructor.
- The International Programmes Department reserves the right to cancel any of the courses on offer for the 2012 programme should they be undersubscribed. In the unlikely event of this situation arising, participants will be advised on the best alternative subject for their course requirements.
Insurance and Cancellation Policy
- Students are strongly advised to take out appropriate insurance before their arrival in the UK. The duration of the insurance policy should provide adequate cover for the outward and return journeys and the duration of the stay, and cover students for any expenses incurred as a result of illness or medical care required, lost or stolen or damaged property, late arrival or early departure or cancellation due to unforeseen and/or unavoidable circumstances. Students should indicate on the application form if they have any specific medical condition or conditions that the International Programmes Department should be aware of.
- Pembroke College regrets that it is unable to accept liability for loss or damage to student property.
- If, for whatever reason, a student is obliged to cancel their place on the Pembroke-King's Programme, they should be aware of the following stipulations:
- Application Fee (£50): This fee is non-refundable.
- Tuition Fee (£2,312): This fee is non-refundable.
- Supervision Supplement (£400): This supplement is non-refundable.
- Accommodation Fees (£1,586 - £2,102): cancellations before 15 May 2012 shall be granted a full refund, before 1 June 2012 a 50% refund, and before 15 June 2012 a 25% refund. Thereafter, no part of the accommodation fee will be refunded.
- Students applying through the University of California EAP or American University should note that:
- They do pay the non-refundable Application Fee of £50, and this is applied to the accommodation fee if the application is successful.
- They must pay the accommodation fee directly to Pembroke, and this non-refundable fee is paid once the student has been admitted on the programme. Payment of this fee enables students to register for courses.
Students who have any questions about finances or spending, either before arrival or during the programme, should contact the International Programmes Department for advice.
Rules of Conduct and Computer Use
All students participating on the Pembroke-King’s Programme will be required to abide by Pembroke College's Rules of Conduct and the University of Cambridge’s Computing Facilities Rules and Guidelines, and these rules must be read before applying.
