These are typical examples of daily e-mails sent to all Pembroke-King’s Programme students outlining upcoming social activities:
Day 1
Hi everyone,
Welcome back to sunny England and to today’s daily bulletin! Hope you all had a fantastic time in Scotland.
TODAY
*Chapel tours*
Meet at the *west gate of King's College Chapel at 1pm or 1.30pm* for a free tour of the Chapel. Look for HY!
*Chapel roof tours*
See the sights of Cambridge in spectacular style from the roof of King's College Chapel. You must sign up as we are strictly limited to 15 students per group. Tours are running Tuesday-Thursday this week, starting at *2pm today* - sign up fast! On Wednesday and Thursday, tours will be running 12pm and 2pm each day. Meet at the *King's Porters' Lodge.*
*Grantchester*
Meet at *King's porters' lodge at 3.30pm* for a leisurely stroll to
picturesque Grantchester for afternoon tea and scones at the Orchard
tea rooms. The trip was much enjoyed by all who went last week and
there are still spaces available for today. Sign up on the notice
board.
*Union talk*
The Cambridge Union Society has arranged a talk for this afternoon, *
3.30-5.30pm*, which you are invited to attend. It will be held in the
main *debating chamber* and will be delivered by Supreme Court Justice,
Stephen Breyer. Note: you should not skip a class to attend this, however
tempted you are!
*Maths lecture course*
The Maths lecture course starts this evening at *6.45pm in the Nihon
Room at Pembroke* with an introductory talk delivered by the lecturer. If
you are even thinking about this just a little bit, turn up and find out what
it's about. Remember, you can take the Maths course as a free 4th option and it
does not conflict with any other courses.
*Formal*
Please *pick up your ticket* from the office. You’ll need your ticket before entry! No ticket, no entry!
The first Pembroke Formal Hall is happening tonight. Drinks are being
served from 7pm on the *Library Lawn* (*not* the Bowling Green as on the
timetable) in Pembroke College. Dress code is formal/smart. Please
remember to help the serving staff out by staying seated during formal,
not using mobiles, and saving taking photos till after the Fellows have
left.
*World cup*
Tonight’s world cup semi-finals will be showing tonight in the *Union
Bar*. Kick off is at *7.30pm*, come shout for your favourites.
TOMORROW
*Formal sign up*
Pembroke Formal Hall on Thursday July 8th. Drinks will be from *7pm* on
the Pembroke *Bowling Green* with dinner starting at 7.30pm. Please sign
up on the notice board, and remember to state any dietary requirements.
*The deadline for signups is Wednesday morning at 10am*.
*Football*
...otherwise known as Soccer. There will be a fun game *tomorrow*
(Wednesday) afternoon at *5pm on Parker’s Piece*. Just show up in
trainers, we’re meeting at King’s Porters' Lodge at 4.45pm to head
over.
*Evensong*
Evensong at King’s is still on for one more week. It is happening
every day this week at 5.30pm. To guarantee a space, make sure to
turn at *5.15pm*and queue in the *University members' queue* and have your
King's card with you.
*Film screening*
The film "Maurice" is being shown in the *TV room in `A´* staircase in
King’s tomorrow (Wednesday) evening from *7.30pm*. It was filmed in
King’s itself and is based on a book by the Bloomsbury author E. M.
Forster. Entry is free.
*Quiz night*
*Wednesday evening in the Union Bar from 8pm*. Enter in teams with
prizes for the winners.
*Lost property*
There are a few bits of lost property from the Edinburgh trip. We’re
keeping them in the office, just drop by if you think you’ve lost something.
Day 2

Welcome to today's daily bulletin :-)
*Photographs*
Programme Photographs are still out and available to view in
the office. Come along before Friday to place your order. After placing
your order, come along to one of the payment sessions. No payment, no
order, no photo :-( These will happening 9-10am and 12- 2pm on Thursday,
then again 10-12pm on Friday.
TODAY
*Pub trips*
There'll be PAs going to three of Cambridge's less well
known drinking holes tonight. All three are great places to spend an
evening, and are fantastic examples of proper English pubs. We'll be
meeting at 7.30pm at Pembroke P'Lodge to head out.
TOMORROW
*Running*
Morning runs will meet at 6.30am and 8am at Pembroke P'Lodge.
*Squash*
Meet at 10.30 at Pembroke P'Lodge to walk out to the courts at
Pembroke Pitches.
*Stratford Shakespeare Theatre Trip*
We have been offered free coach seats and theatre tickets to join a
trip to Stratford-upon-Avon (William Shakespeare's birthplace) to see a
Royal Shakespeare Company performance of 'A Winter's Tale'. This is a fantastic opportunity to see this world-renowned theatre company perform in a historic location, so if you don't have classes tomorrow afternoon, be sure to sign up on the notice board by tomorrow
morning! The coach leaves at 1.30pm from Pembroke College and will return at
around midnight.
*Roof Tour*
All the spaces to go onto the roof of King's tomorrow are full
- please cross yourself off if you don't intend on coming anymore so
others can come. :) Meet at the King's P'Lodge at the time given and
remember to wear proper shoes. If you haven't been able to sign up this
week, don't worry! We will be scheduling more tours :)
*Pembroke Tea*
Afternoon Tea will be available in Pembroke's historic Thomas Gray Room from 3.15pm tomorrow. The Thomas Gray Room is in I staircase - go up one flight of stairs and it'll be right in front of you.
*Formal*
Tomorrow night is formal night! Please come and collect your
tickets from the PKP office if you've been lucky enough to get a place.
*British Comedy*
Do you like 'Superbad'? Are you a fan of 'The Office'? How about
Pizza? If your answer is YES to any of these questions, make sure to
be at the Union Bar tomorrow night! For your cultural edu-tainment,
we'll be screening a choice selection of British television comedy on the
big screen, accompanied by pizza. The two-hour prime time kicks off at
7.30 pm! Reserve your seat at the beginning if you'd like pizza, or rock
up any time after. Remember, please bring cash for your pizza order!
COMING UP
*Botanic gardens*
Join us for a walk to Cambridge's beautiful botanical gardens at 10am on
Friday morning!
*Kettle's Yard*
Interested in modern art? Join us for a trip to Kettle's Yard, Cambridge's premier modern art collection. This beautiful exhibition space is currently hosting "The Long Dark" - a collection bringing together sculpture, painting, photography and etchings by nine
contemporary artists, which considers medieval and gothic revivalism in contemporary art.
*Restaurant night*
Kings Hall will be closed for dinner on Friday! We'll be running some of
our popular restaurant nights instead. We'll be going to La Tasca, Caffé
Uno the Fort St. George, and the Punter--15 spots each, sign up online
starting tomorrow!
*BBQ and Sports*
Get pysched for Sunday!!! The football tournament is shaping up to
be epic (go Team PA!), so make sure you get your team lists ready
asap! If football isn't your game, make sure to come along for the
pickup sports or to cheer you friends on. In addition to football,
we'll have volleyball, badminton, rounders, and frisbee! A full BBQ
spread, including vegetarian fare, will be grilled on site. Bring £3 on
the day for a full plate of food and an awesome time!
