Professor Giuliano Amato

The College was pleased to welcome Dr Giuliano Amato, former Prime Minister of Italy, on 2 May. Professor Amato delivered the sixth annual K G Sykes Lecture in Italian Studies, speaking on the subject of ‘150 afterwards and beyond: what has remained of Italian Unity’.

Around a hundred people turned up to listen to Professor Amato analyse the problems facing Italy today, but also offer solutions – and hope – for the future.

The talk was one of the first official duty of the new Italian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Pasquale Terracciano, who had only arrived in London the previous evening.

This lecture was generously supported by Mr Keith Sykes (1965), a keen supporter of all things Italian in the College.

An audio recording of the talk will be available to download from the College website in due course.
