Visit from Dominic Grieve QC MP

by Alice Oates

Yesterday the Pembroke student politics society welcomed the Rt Hon. Dominic Grieve QC MP to the college for a talk on Brexit, human rights, and sovereignty.

The evening’s discussion focused on the practicalities of Brexit, from the constitutional repercussions to the issue of parliamentary sovereignty, and the disentangling of the UK’s legal system from that of the EU, given the complexity of the UK’s relationship with the EU and other countries and governing bodies.  Dominic Grieve then took questions from the audience, giving in-depth answers that allowed students to understand more about what Brexit means and why it’s so complicated.
