Congratulations to Dr Emily Jones, Mark Kaplanoff Research Fellow in History, who has recently published her book, ‘Edmund Burke and the Invention of Modern Conservatism’.
The book tells the story of Edmund Burke, and 18th century Irish politician and Whig, whose political ideology has come to be considered the foundation of modern C/conservatism. The book offers a history of ideas rooted in cultural and political contexts, and sets the transformation of Burke’s legacy within the wider context of British political, intellectual, and cultural history in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
