Pembroke Lieder Scheme

Pembroke College’s Lieder Scheme provides coaching for the most promising Lieder singers and accompanists in the University. Tuition in all aspects of Lieder and song performance will be given by the College Musician, Joseph Middleton, recently described by The Times as ‘the cream of the new generation’ of British accompanists, and visiting coaches. In recent seasons, artists who have coached duos on the scheme include John Mark Ainsley, Joan Rodgers, Amanda Roocroft, Roderick Williams and Sarah Connolly.

9Up to four successful duos will be offered professional coaching free of charge over the course of the academic year. This will include a public masterclass. Each duo will also receive two coaching sessions per term from Joseph Middleton, as well as one vocal coaching session per term from visiting artists participating in the Sir Arthur Bliss Song Series at Pembroke. Each coaching session will last one hour. All award holders are required to perform in a gala concert to be held at the beginning of Easter Term.

Any current undergraduate or graduate student of the University of Cambridge is eligible to apply; those who graduated from Cambridge no more than three years ago are also eligible.
