Sign up as a Pembroke Giving Day Digital Ambassador
We are looking for Digital Ambassadors, people who have significant reach and influence among our alumni and well beyond, especially in social media, to maximise the reach of our next Giving Day. By sharing messages about the day with your network on social media and via e-mail, you can help us achieve our aim to raise £30,000 in 36 hours.
What’s it all about?
On Tuesday 19 November we are teaming up with the Council of At-Risk Academics (CARA) to raise £30,000 to help an academic who is either in immediate danger, or who cannot work in his/her home country due to serious risks, to escape to a place of safety here at Pembroke College and continue their research in Cambridge. This “Giving Day” will be taking place both online and in College, bringing together students, staff, Fellows, friends and alumni from across the world in support of this important initiative. We have shown commitment to this before and have been hosting a “CARA Scholar” for the past two years.
£30,000 is a challenging target, and we aim to achieve this in 36 hours. The sum will provide a stipend and accommodation for the academic (and their family if they have one) for one year here.
How can you help?
It only takes a few clicks to help us! We will send you ready-to-share content ahead of, and throughout the day itself. We are lucky that so many Pembroke Members support the College, and we hope you will want to help us spread the word about our important aspiration, and about the Pembroke Giving Day, by becoming a Digital Ambassador.
What do we ask of you?
- Help to disseminate messages from the Development Team to your networks via social media and email.
- We’ll send you all you need and just ask you to share it with your contacts.
- We will also plan social media activities for 19 November that you could be involved in beforehand and on the day – selfies, short videos, etc – which you share with us to use in our messages, and on your main social media channels (NB you don’t have to be active on all three platforms).
- The time commitment is minimal - all content will be provided ready to share with your networks.
Who can become a Giving Day Digital Ambassador?
Anyone who believes in the need to defend individual liberty and academic freedom and sees how Pembroke can play a role can become a Giving Day Digital Ambassador. We’d love to have our UK based alumni on-board but this is also a great way for alumni based overseas to volunteer a little bit of their time too. If you have an active social media following, and/or are regarded as influential in your field, even better! Experience in other academic institutions has shown just how important Digital Ambassadors are.
