The Rt Hon Sir Konrad Schiemann

Konrad Schiemann came to England as an orphan having spent the war in Germany. After studying in England he practiced as a barrister and was appointed a High Court Judge in 1986 and a Lord Justice of Appeal in 1995. Eight years later he resigned from the Court of Appeal after being appointed a judge of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. His second term there came to an end in 2012 and he returned to Kent where his family now lives.

He was chairman of St John's Smith Square and of the Busoga Trust - a charity concerned with the provision of water to rural Uganda. Apart from positions in various legal organisations, he was on the boards of the Academy of Ancient Music and English National Ballet. Since his Cambridge days he has been an enthusiast for the European Union and its predecessors. He is married and the father of  Juliet Schiemann, a professional singer.
