Fundraising Success for the GP

Every year Pembroke's Graduate Parlour holds a wide selection of events to fundraise for a charity selected by members of the GP. Their 2017-18 charity was Mind, the mental health charity that works to provide support and advice to people with mental health problems, and to increase understanding and awareness of mental illness.

This year's fundraising activities included an open mic night with singers, magic tricks, poetry, and comedy; a formal dinner where £3 from each ticket went to Mind; a charity auction that included items like May Ball tickets, champagne, and dance lessons; and a charity sale. The sale is also a good example of the reduce, reuse, recycle principle; students leaving at the end of the Easter term donated household items, books, clothes and so on to be sold on to freshers at the start of Michaelmas term.

In total the GP raised £1200 for Mind.

In addition the puppy day - a joint welfare event for the JP and GP - raised £300 for Guide Dogs UK.

Thank you to the GP Charities Officer Abby Shea for this report, and for her efforts organising so many fundraising events.
