Gates Scholar shares Bill Gates Sr. Prize

Cansu Karabiyik (2016) has won this years Bill Gates Sr. Prize in recognition of outstanding research and social leadership. She shares the prize with fellow Gates Scholar Carol Nkechi.

Cansu is currently studying for a PhD in Medical Science investigating autophagy in Parkinson's Disease, and has contributed to several publications on neurodegenerative diseases. She is also dedicated to improving the lives of refugees, and founded comedy fundraising group Laugh 4 Change to raise money for refugees in Greece. Cansu was also nominated for the award because of her commitment to Gates Scholars' professional development as Learning for Purpose co-director. Congratulations Cansu!
