  • a copy of your most recent undergraduate academic transcript, showing both the term and cumulative GPA.

If you are a graduate student, you are also welcome to apply for the Online Summer Research Programme, but are advised to check with your institution for advice about gaining course credit for participation in the Online Summer Research Programme. The following document should be submitted as part of the application process:

Receiving an Offer

The International Programmes department will communicate the outcome of your application within 10 working days of receiving all of your application materials.

Upon receiving an offer to participate in the programme, you have two weeks from the date of the offer or until 19 April 2024 (whichever is earlier) to secure your place by paying the programme fee. If you do not secure your place by the deadline, then your offer of a place will expire.

Cancellation Policy

If, for whatever reason, you wish to cancel your place on Online Summer Research Programme, your programme fee will be refunded as below:

Date of withdrawal  Programme fee refund*
Within 14 days of paying the programme fee** 100%
On or before 1 March 2024 95%
After 1 March but before 3 April 2024 50%
On or after 3 April 2024 No refund

If International Programmes is obliged to cancel the programme for any reason, you will receive a full refund of the fee paid.

If we are unable to find a suitable supervisor for your chosen research topic, we will first discuss this with you and where possible identify a suitable alternative topic. If this is not possible and you are therefore unable to participate in the programme, we will provide a full refund.

You will be expected to communicate with your supervisor before the start of the programme to arrange your supervisions. Failure to engage promptly with your supervisor or the programme (defined as failure to respond to email contact within 48 hours, particularly in the week before the start of the programme and at any point during the programme) will result in you being withdrawn from the programme. If there are extenuating circumstances, you must make the programme aware as soon as possible, and in advance wherever possible. We will contact you only using the email address provided as part of your application.

*Any bank charges or transfer fees incurred will be deducted from your refund.

**If you change your mind about taking part in the programme, you have 14 days starting from the day after you pay the programme fee in which you can cancel your place and receive a full refund. You must notify us of your request to cancel by emailing osrp@pem.cam.ac.uk. After 14 days, our refund policy applies as set out above. If you pay the programme fee on 19 April 2024, we will need to start making preparations for your participation in the programme immediately. If you subsequently decide to cancel within 14 days of paying the programme fee, we will deduct from your refund an amount to cover the cost of the services provided up until you cancelled.

Changes to Research Projects

The International Programmes Department reserves the right to alter or cancel any research project on the programme should illness or unavoidable changes in circumstance prevent a supervisor from teaching. The Department will make all efforts, should such an event arise, to provide a suitable substitute supervisor. IP may engage with the student to revise the focus of the research proposal to ensure it can be more suitably matched to an expert in the field.
