Sir Roger Tomkys

Sir Roger Tomkys was Master from 1992 to 2004. He was educated at Bradford Grammar School and Balliol College Oxford where he took first class honours in Greats (Classics) before entering HM Diplomatic Service. He studied Arabic in Lebanon and served in Jordan, Libya, Athens and Rome, in addition to postings in the FCO and Cabinet Office. He was Ambassador in Bahrain and Syria and High Commissioner in Kenya. At Pembroke he was closely involved with the development of International Programmes, especially with Japanese and US Universities and gave seminars for the Thouron Scholars.
