The Future of Progressive Politics: Pembroke Politics Society is back!

The Pembroke Politics Society is a platform for interesting and influential speakers and their first talk of 2018 fulfilled the brief perfectly.

Lord Smith spoke about the need for progressive politics to bring together the different elements of progressive governance around the world to create an effective and emotionally impactful message.  Progressive politics, he told the audience, should be open, tolerant, welcoming, and internationalist in outlook.  Diversify the people in the process of governance, he argued, and you will see better governance.  Despite his evident concern for the future of progressive politics, Lord Smith's talk was ultimately uplifting, ending with the assertion that if you help individuals light their own candles and carry them forward, you will light up the world.

The next Pembroke Politics event takes place TONIGHT, Friday 26th January, when Tom Newton Dunn will be asking whether Jeremy Corbyn could ever be Prime Minister. Full details on the Facebook page.
