Interview with a Fellow: Dr Matthew Tointon

Dr Matthew Tointon is the Stokes' Research Fellow at Pembroke College. He is affiliated to the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics at the University of Cambridge.

Dr Tointon's research is in the field of Group Theory. He is interested in problems and results that involve some combination of algebra, combinatorics and geometry. In this video he discusses how geometric shapes can help us understand and study mathematical operations, from a simple number line to the complex networks of operations he works with. He also discusses his current project investigating the relationship between probability and resistance in finite networks.
