Pembroke Arts and Humanities Residential 2019

On 1st July, we welcomed 30 Year 12 students to Pembroke College for a five-day Arts and Humanities residential.

Throughout the week, students took part in a variety of lectures and activities, enabling them to explore a range of subjects in more depth and get a taste for life at the University of Cambridge.

Upon arrival, the residential kicked off with a fun ice-breaker activity in which the students were tasked with building a tower from newspaper, spaghetti and sticky-tape, which was strong enough to hold a full can of cola. After getting to know each other, we then walked over to the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies for the first academic session of the residential.

Over the course of the next three days, we visited a number of different departments and were even lucky enough to visit the Cambridge University Library’s Special Collections to look at transcripts of the Quran dating back to the 7th Century! Other academic sessions included Law, Theology, Politics, and Archaeology.

In the evenings, the group took part in a number of exciting activities, including punting along the River Cam, a film night, formal hall, and a trip to the theatre to see a production of The 39 Steps.

We would like to thank all of the current Pembroke student helpers for their hard work and support throughout the event. We would also like to thank all of the academics who offered their time to deliver lectures and subject sessions.

It was a pleasure to work with such an engaged and bright group of students and we wish you every success in the future!
