Living Expenses

Living Costs

Pembroke undergraduates live in College-owned accommodation during their three or four years in Cambridge. They occupy single study-bedrooms on the main College site or in College-owned houses nearby.

Cambridge has three terms: Michaelmas, Lent and Easter, and rent is charged per term. Each term lasts 8 weeks, though students are usually in residence for 9 or 10 weeks. We don’t charge if you’re not here (i.e. during holidays) so most students only pay for between 27-30 weeks each academic year.

Rents vary according to the room size and facilities available, and include electricity and internet charges. Please note that those listed below may change, but are accurate for 2018-19.

Maximum rent £138.39
Minimum rent £90.60
Approx. living costs including food £110

Maximum costs                                    £7731
Minimum costs £6370.50

*Includes Kitchen Facilities Charge (KFC) which contributes towards College kitchens’ running costs, allowing us to offer meals at lower prices.

How much money will I need?

Living costs obviously vary per person, depending on your lifestyle and other factors. The University estimates students need around £9,160 to cover living expenses in Cambridge, though Pembroke students tell us that between £7,800 to £8,500 is usually enough.
