Pembroke College Cambridge

Pembroke Giving Day Digital Ambassadors

We are looking for ambassadors to maximise the reach of our next Giving Day. By sharing messages about the day with your network on social media and via email, you can help us achieve our target to raise £70,000 in 48 hours.

What's it all about?

On Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th March 2022, we are once again teaming up with the Council of At-Risk Academics (CARA). This time we aim to raise £70,000 to help a female academic from Afghanistan to escape to a place of safety, here at Pembroke College, and to continue her research in Cambridge. This Giving Day will be taking place both online and in College, bringing together students, staff, Fellows, friends and alumni from across the world in support of this current initiative. We have shown commitment to this before and have been hosting a "CARA Scholar" for the past two years.

£70,000 is a challenging target and we aim to achieve this in 48 hours. During their 2 year stay, this will provide:

  • Accommodation for the academic within the College
  • Research expenses
  • A stipend
  • And the one-off cost of a flight and a UK visa

How can you help?

It only takes a few clicks to help us! We will send you ready-to-share content ahead of, and throughout the day itself. We are lucky that so many Pembroke Members support the College, and we hope you will want to help us spread the word about our important aspiration, and about the Pembroke Giving Day, by becoming a Digital Ambassador.

What do we ask of you?

  • Help to disseminate messages from the Development team to your networks via social media and email
  • We'll send you all the content you'll need and just ask you to share it with your contacts
  • We will also plan social media activities for 15th and 16th March that you could be involved in beforehand and on the day - selfies, short videos, etc - which you share with us to use in our messages and on your preferred social media channels (NB you don't have to share all the content or be active on all platforms)
  • The time commitment is minimal - all content will be provided , ready to share with your networks.

Why become a Giving Day Digital Ambassador?

Anyone who believes in the need to defend individual liberty and academic freedom and sees how Pembroke can play a role can become a Giving Day Digital Ambassador. We’d love to have our UK-based alumni on-board but this is also a great way for alumni and friends based overseas to volunteer a little bit of their time too. If you have an active social media following, and/or are regarded as influential in your field, even better! Experience in other academic institutions has shown just how important Digital Ambassadors are.
