Pembroke College Cambridge

Meet our 2023 Telephone Campaign Alumni Engagement Ambassadors

Alex Clovis

Hello, I am a second-year student here at Pembroke studying Linguistics. I'm particularly interested in learning about the applications of areas in linguistics such as pragmatics and phonetic science to written art, and atypical speech in many senses. Outside of that, I love learning about and taking care of plants, pursue artistic endeavours such as photography and poetry, and enjoy learning languages (currently I speak Spanish and Japanese conversationally). When I moved in early last year I had the pleasure of meeting the students as they were undertaking the telephone campaign and had an insight into the work they were doing, I am excited to engage with a range of people and discover what links lie between me and past alumni besides the college whilst doing my part for the future of the students and the College.
Rida Fatima

Hi there. I'm Rida and I've just completed my first year at Pembroke studying Law! Pembroke has been such a beautiful home to me and I have found myself never wanting to leave because of the amazing gardens and company. I've always wanted to make the most of my time here, since 3 years seems like nothing and certainly not enough in such a wonderful place, that's why I've tried to take part in as many clubs and societies as possible. I cox for PCBC, which has been so new and at times overwhelming, I'm part of PCMS (music society) and love singing with my friend accompanying me on the piano. I also like to stop by and discuss my poetry in Pembroke Poetry Soc and at times I've tried my best to get into Varsity as well. My hobbies are mainly running, listening to music and reading Dostoevsky in cafes in Cambridge.
Lily Rose Fitzmaurice

I am a PhD student at Pembroke College exploring the relationship between our representations of time and children’s agency in the context of children’s literature, culture and media. I love to read in my free time, and the college has so many beautiful spots for it! My further research interests include best practices in Higher Education, especially the co-creation of diverse and interdisciplinary teaching and learning spaces. I love being a member of Pembroke’s warm and vibrant community and engaging in such rich conversations with students from different backgrounds, experiences and expertise. Pembroke supports students in a multitude of ways, and I am excited to assist in these efforts as an Alumni Engagement Ambassador. I also look forward to hearing stories from Alumni about their time at Pembroke.
Abbey Gibson

Hello! I am Abbey, a fourth year Modern and Medieval Languages student at Pembroke. I’ve just come back from my year abroad spent in Austria and Germany, and I am so excited to get involved in life at Pembroke once more! I’ve previously worked as a Pembassador and a mentor for the shadowing scheme and I have also enjoyed rowing at Pembroke. Outside of college, I’ve been a part of Notorious, an a cappella group here in Cambridge, and I am the Vice President for the Cambridge University Languages and Culture Society this year. Pembroke has given me so many opportunities, and I’m so excited to join the telethon campaign to help future students receive the same support I have. I’m also really looking forward to hearing about what alumni have been up to since graduation and what their experience was like at Pembroke!
Ross Harrison

Hello! My name's Ross Harrison, and I'm going into my second year at Pembroke studying Human, Social and Political Sciences. My first year at Pembroke was a blast - I'm under no doubt that the college encompasses some of the kindest and most approachable students and staff members in the university. Aside from the degree, my time at university is spent playing sports - I play for the university football team as well as for Pembroke's football and cricket sides. I've signed up to be a Pembassador this year, a role concerned with promoting the college to incoming/prospective students. I'm keen to take part in the alumni telephone campaign to ensure that Pembroke continues to provide an excellent and well-rounded student experience. I'd also love to connect with alumni within the (remarkably broad) field of my degree and learn about what they've got up to post-Pembroke.
Max Heuvels

I am an incoming third-year student reading English at Pembroke. My first two years at Pembroke have been amazing and full of opportunities. Some highlights have been reviving Pembroke’s undergraduate poetry society and playing volleyball with other members of college. I have also participated in the wider Cambridge poetry scene—publishing in zines and supporting launch events! By doing the telephone campaign, I want to make sure future students have access to just as amazing opportunities at Pembroke, and I look forward to hearing about alumni experiences.
Amber Irish

I am a third-year student at Pembroke studying Psychological and Behavioural Sciences. I love the beautiful gardens and community feel that Pembroke offers to all. I am a member of the Pembroke Christian Union and frequent Holy Trinity church with friends from College. I am also the team captain of the University's Level 3 Cheerleading Team, of which I have been a member since I first came to university. I'm excited to do the Telephone Campaign as I love to know what alumni get up to and achieve after college, and can really see the difference that the money raised makes to the College and all its current and future members.
Aleena Mahmood

I've just finished my second year studying English at Pembroke and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far! Pembroke for me has been a warm and friendly place that truly feels like home. When not studying, I've been involved in the ADC theatre, taking part in Access Residential Schemes, interning at the Student Services Centre and newly becoming a part of the Pembroke Law Society as the 'Non-Law Officer'. I'm excited to engage with alumni as the support they offer to the college is invaluable, and it will be interesting to hear their experiences of Pembroke.
Amy Moorhouse

I have just completed my undergraduate degree, studying History and Politics at Pembroke. I feel very lucky to have got to call Pembroke home and have absolutely loved my time here. Outside of my degree, I was involved in the speaking society, the Pembroke Prattlers, and attended talks organised by the Pembroke Politics Society. I also worked as a Pembassador, mentored in the Cambridge Shadowing Scheme, and served as secretary of the Cambridge University Motorsports Fans Society. I have experienced first-hand the incredible nature and generosity of the Pembroke Community and the significant difference it can make to students' experiences and opportunities. That is why I am really excited to work on the telephone campaign, before taking on graduate life and figuring out my next steps.
Pasidu Perera

Hi, I’m Pasidu and I am an incoming second-year student at Pembroke studying Economics :) I have loved my time here and want to contribute back to the college – Pembroke made me feel so welcome and excited for university life as someone who has been pretty shy their entire life! In my free time, I love being in nature and star-gazing(Castle Mound in particular), I play Badminton and Rowing casually and I am a member of CAMSIF, CUFIS, and The Marshall Society. I have begun to revive my old passions of playing the piano and electric guitar! Recently, I have been in Vietnam as a volunteer English teacher for children aged 7-15, and I have been organising a fund-raiser for Anaphylaxis UK for the beginning of my 2nd year. I want to do the telephone campaign because I want Pembroke to be even better for future students and the money it raises will be so vital for funding things like bursaries and the Mill Lane development, as well as to meet alumni who may provide me guidance/help for my future career which I aspire to be in entrepreneurship!
Ernie Visick

I'm a second-year Natural Scientist here at Pembroke! In first year, I really enjoyed doing a range of both biological and physical modules, but now I want to focus on chemistry. Pembroke is a wonderfully friendly college, and you can always meet new friends at its many societies. I wanted to join the Telethon to help raise funding for Pembroke's many projects, from the Enhancement Bursary to the Mill Lane development, and to make sure future students can enjoy the college as much as I have. Also, I find talking to alumni about their careers after graduating really interesting and the telephone campaign is the perfect opportunity to do this!
