The Stokes Society, Jo Cox Feminist Society, Pem Art, Pembroke Politics, Pembroke Orchard Green Society, Pembroke Players and Pembroke History Society will all be hosting special events to mark Black History Month, this October.

Speakers include Ebele Okobi, Public Policy Director Africa, the Middle East & Turkey for Facebook, Tyrone Scott, Housing Campaigner and London Community Organiser for Shelter, Baroness Floella Benjamin broadcaster and parliamentarian, and Malik Al Nasir, author, performance poet, filmmaker

The College will be unveiling a portrait in Hall of the late Barbadian poet, literary critic and scholar, Kamau Brathwaite. Dr Brathwaite came to Pembroke in 1950 to read History and was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the College in 2016. This event will be live-streamed on Zoom at 6pm on Thursday 22nd October:

Displays on Caribbean poets, including Kamau Brathwaite, curated by Pembroke student Maya Macfarlane, can be found at the bottom of J Staircase and in the Upper Reading Room of the Library.
