SOUS CHEF

USS .36  £28,332

37.5 Hours per week

Pembroke College is seeking to appoint a talented, creative and enthusiastic, Sous Chef to join our Catering Team.  The role is full time working 75 hours over a two week period, not including breaks.  Shifts are a mixture of straight and split with alternate weekends off.  The individual should be qualified to NVQ level 3 Professional Cookery or City and Guilds equivalent and had a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a kitchen environment with responsibility for managing staff.  Some hotel, restaurant or commercial experience would be advantageous. The role is to work on the Stove Section within the Kitchen, which cooks for the Fellows, Staff, guests Formal Halls, Private Lunches and Dinners on a daily basis.  Training will be given to the successful candidate to help further develop the skills needed.      

Successful candidates will report to the Head Chef.  Ensuring all HACCP, food safety, health and safety systems are followed on a daily basis.

We seek an enthusiastic and reliable person to join our Porters Lodge team.  Responsibilities include front of house / reception duties, security and safety procedures.  Working 36.5 hours per week on a new rota shift pattern.  The ideal candidate would be familiar with a fast-moving environment, customer focused and smart in appearance.

Training will be given to the successful candidate to help further develop the skills needed.

SENIOR CATERING ASSISTANT

Pembroke College is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and friendly Senior Catering Assistant to join our Catering Team.

The role is full time, working 37.5 hours per week. 

Successful candidates will report to the High Table/Hall Butler. The role will involve assisting in the smooth running of the food and beverage service for all internal and external functions including cafeteria lunches, fine dining, College Feasts, buffet service, student Café and Bar. To actively engage with our customers, exceeding their expectations and ensuring all aspects of service provided are effectively delivered.  Previous experience in a similar role is desirable.

DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Pembroke College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and talented fundraiser to join its Development Office at a very exciting time. The main components of this job include implementing a young alumni engagement programme, managing the Reunion Giving programme, gift solicitations via phone, face-to-face fundraising and research.

Founded in 1347, Pembroke College is a lively and friendly community, catering for approximately 80 academic staff and 750 undergraduate and graduate students. The College recently launched its most ambitious capital campaign yet to raise £75 million. Pembroke’s Development Office is the longest established professional development operation in Cambridge. It provides circa 25% of the College’s annual operating income and it is the only office to have a Corporate Partnership Programme. The successful candidate would be joining a highly skilled, diverse team of 12 specialist development professionals who address all aspects of alumni relations, individual and corporate fundraising.

ACADEMIC VACANCIES

ABDULLAH AL-MUBARAK RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN ISLAMIC AND MIDDLE EASTERN STUDIES

The College hopes to elect to a three-year ABDULLAH AL-MUBARAK RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN ISLAMIC AND MIDDLE EASTERN STUDIES, to commence on 1 October 2020. Candidates should have recently completed or be about to complete a doctoral degree. The College welcomes applications from scholars with research interests in any aspect of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. The tenure of the Fellowship will be for three years.   The holder will be expected to do a limited amount of teaching for the College, but would require the permission of the Governing Body to undertake other paid work. The stipend will be in the range of £23,754 to £26,715, depending on whether the successful candidate has been awarded a Ph.D.  Applications are welcomed from outstandingly able researchers who have completed a doctoral degree since 1 October 2018 or who will have completed their doctoral studies by 1 October 2020; they will be expected to present a detailed plan for the postdoctoral research they wish to undertake during their Fellowship.

Research Fellows are offered subsidized accommodation, in college if unaccompanied, in college-owned flats or houses if partnered; where accommodation is not required the Abdullah Al-Mubarak Research Fellow will be offered a study in College. Research Fellows, like every Fellow of the College, are members of the Governing Body, and enjoy a range of benefits and privileges as well as responsibilities. These include seven free meals per week at High Table, access to a Fellows’ Research Fund, and eligibility to apply for support for conferences or workshops Fellows organize in Cambridge.
