The Tutors
As list of current undergraduate and postgraduate tutors can be found here.
The College Nurse
The College Nurse, Mrs Sarah Winder-Worsley, is normally in her surgery (G11, Red Buildings) during term Monday – Friday, 09.30-14.30. She can attend to many minor physical ailments and give advice and help with any anxieties about health. To make a confidential appointment please use her Moodle course
Counselling and emotional support
Details of who to speak to and the support available in College and the University if you are having personal and emotional problems are available here.
What to do if you feel unwell or injure yourself
Do not suffer in silence - let someone know that you feel unwell, so that College is aware. If an injury has occurred, you should call the Porters' Lodge in the first instance. The Porters are trained first-aiders and will be able to assist, or will call a taxi or an ambulance for you if you require treatment at the Accident and Emergency Department (A&E) at Addenbrooke's Hospital. The College normally covers the taxi cost.
Registering with a Medical Doctor's Practice (General Practitioner (GP))
All students registered with the College, including those from overseas, are entitled to medical treatment under the National Health Service for the duration of their course. All members of the College are required to register with a doctor (a General Practitioner) in Cambridge so that they can receive prompt attention in case of illness.
There is no official University or College doctor, but the College Nurse will help new students to register at the Trumpington Street Medical Practice; those wishing to find an alternative doctors' surgery in Cambridge may do so by searching for surgeries on the NHS website. It is important to be registered with a doctor in case you have to be admitted to hospital in an emergency. It is now possible to register with all of the City Practices online ,but if you have problems the College Nurse will be able to help.
Dental care
There are very few Dentists in Cambridge taking new NHS patients, so it is likely that you will need to pay privately for any dental treatment. To find an NHS Dentist in Cambridge please call NHS111 who will have up to date details. UK students with an NHS Dentist in their home town should continue to have regular check-ups there, to maintain your place on their NHS list (otherwise you will be 'delisted' and will pay private prices). There is an emergency NHS Dental Service, but this is only accessible via NHS 111.
Childcare
The University Childcare Office provides information for students with families and offers an Information Service on a variety of topics – from schools and nursery places, childcare bursaries and Government financial support, to healthcare and community resources..
Pembroke nursery - is under discussion, but this facility is still in the planning stage and not currently available.
Pembroke is part of the Central Childcare Bursary Scheme which can provide grants to overseas and EU students to help with childcare costs. Home students are funded by The University Childcare Support Fund. All support is means-tested.
Pembroke has no specific family accommodation to offer, but there are a very limited number of couples flats. The College Registrar will be able to advise on availability.
Students who consider themselves in severe financial need should, as a first step, discuss their situation in confidence with their Tutor.
Safety and security
- Pembroke operates a taxi voucher scheme so that Pembroke students do not have to walk to the College hostels on their own.
- The College provides some advice on personal security.
Sexual Health advice
- Rape & Sexual Assault: Information for students
- Sexual consent-myths around consent
- Sexual consent poster
- Safe places map (most of these places are currently closed, but colleges are always open to students seeking a safe place)
