Cendrillon by Pauline Viardot is a work cast for seven principal roles and accompanied by piano. It was premiered in 1904 when the composer was 83 years old.

Although the opera remains relatively faithful to Perrault’s original fairy tale, there are some unexpected twists and turns. In this production, set in a modern-day apartment, ‘Marie’ is studying a vocal score of Cinderella. At first, she mocks the outdated sexism and senselessness of the tale, but as time goes on, she begins to relate to the protagonist and becomes immersed in the fantastical, fairy-tale world. Dream and reality, fantasy and fact, are blurred in this immersive, atmospheric production.

This is a free event.

Please note that there is a later start time of 8 PM for the Friday performance.
