Professor Robert Mayhew
Professor Robert J Mayhew is an historical geographer whose research interests are at the interface of historical geography and intellectual history, in particular the intellectual history of British geography books, demography and migration, c 1660-1900. He is the author of three books, Enlightenment Geography (2000), Landscape, Literature and English Religious Culture (2004) and Malthus (2014) and he has edited a further four books.
Professor Mayhew was a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow and a Philip Leverhulme Prize winner. His research has been funded by the British Academy (Senior Research Fellowship) and the Leverhulme Trust (Major Research Fellowship). Robert is an Honorary Professor in the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. In 2021 he was elected a Fellow of the British Academy.
During September 2021 Professor Mayhew joined Pembroke College as an Official Fellow and the college's Senior Tutor.
