Pembroke College Cambridge

Ms Alice Whitehead

Alice is a Research Affiliate currently working on a research project that explores Pembroke College’s historical connections with slavery. She completed her BA and MPhil at the University of Cambridge, before starting her PhD there in 2020. Her doctoral research was undertaken in partnership with the National Trust and investigated the colonial history of Shugborough Hall, in Staffordshire. Much of her research has focused on the financial and material legacies of the British Empire, and she is particularly interested in the relationship between slavery, colonialism and material culture in eighteenth-century Britain. Alice has previously worked with the Bank of England, University of Cambridge Museums, Queens’ College Cambridge and Magdalene College Cambridge on their respective Legacies of Enslavement research projects.
