William Pitt Fellowship Admission of Stefano Lucchini

On 15th July 2022, Mr Stefano Lucchini of Intesa SanPaolo was admitted to his William Pitt Fellowship at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge.

Stefano Lucchini holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome. After a number of External Relations roles at Montedison USA, Enel, Confindustria, Intesa Sanpaolo and Eni, he finally made a return to Intesa Sanpaolo in 2014 as Group Chief Institutional Affairs and External Communication Officer.

Intesa Sanpaolo has thrown its weight behind Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan in a bid to kickstart the economy and sustainably develop the country. With this aim it has developed a number of innovative loans and investment products to support the sustainable transformation of businesses, especially SMEs. The social responsibility of Intesa Sanpaolo embraces all the countries where it operates with own subsidiaries and in recent months the Bank donated €10m for local and international organizations assisting the people of Ukraine. As well as in humanitarian and philanthropic causes, Intesa Sanpaolo has shown a particular interest in scientific innovation through its subsidiary Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, and a keen commitment to foster cultural initiatives. For instance, for 30 years it has been supporting the bespoke restoration of various Italian artistic and architectural works, promoting the Italian culture abroad as well as displaying Intesa Sanpaolo’s own cultural assets through its renowned network of four museums in Italy. In Cambridge, Intesa Sanpaolo has supported student-led research across academic disciplines, with a particular focus on the Italian language as well as Italian history and culture through its work with Pembroke College and the Italian Section at the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics.

In 2020 Intesa Sanpaolo joined Pembroke’s Corporate Partnership Programme, and the College is proud to welcome the bank to the fold and admit Mr Stefano Lucchini into the William Pitt Fellowship in recognition of this already blossoming relationship.

The admission ceremony was attended by many Fellows and friends of the College, along with Stefano’s colleague Nicoletta Bernasconi Head of University Institutional Relations and Corporate Fellows Professor Mike Payne and Mr Matthew Mellor. The signing of the relevant College books was followed by the presentation to Stefano of his gown.

We are delighted to welcome Stefano as our newest William Pitt Fellow, and looking forward to our continued strong working relationship with Intesa Sanpaolo.
