Tim Passingham of Cambridge MC admitted to his William Pitt Fellowship

To end 2022 on a high we are thrilled to welcome two new William Pitt Fellows to Pembroke. The first of these was Tim Passingham from Cambridge Management Consulting. Tim is already well known to the College, participating in various partnership activities while he worked at BT, and has stayed in touch since. Earlier in the year, Tim reignited a conversation on how Cambridge Management Consulting might be able to support the College and how a partnership could help bring the worlds of academia, business and industry closer together.

Tim Passingham signing his name

In addition to being the founder and Chairman of Cambridge Management Consulting, Tim is Chairman of the IoT pollution reduction technology business Iknaia, Chairman of Lightning Fibre, Co-Founder and Non-Executive Director of sustainability consultancy Edenseven, and a Non-Executive Director of The Carrier Club. He has extensive executive experience in the telecommunications industry which, in addition to BT, includes Level 3 Communications (now Lumen) and Colt. He also Chairs a thinktank called The Intelligent Network (TIN) which is attended by CxOs from many of the world’s largest telecommunications, cloud and content providers. A Global Ambassador for Telecoms Sans Frontieres (TSF), a charity that provides first-in communications for global disaster relief, and a Patron and Trustee of the British Exploring Society (BES), Tim brings a wealth of experience and energy to his role as a William Pitt Fellow.

Guests of the ceremony in conversation

Cambridge Management Consulting is a specialist management consultancy based in Cambridge, London, Paris and Tel Aviv primarily focused on the telecommunications, hi-tech, fintech and biotech sectors. It has ~120 consultants operating in eighteen countries who tackle the business challenges that their clients ask them to help solve. Tim was inspired to found the business whilst completing the Advanced Leadership Programme (ALP) at the Cambridge Judge Business School.

Socialising

The partnership with Pembroke is intended as a genuine two-way relationship, with Cambridge MC being especially interested in exploring the latest thinking around People, Process, Technology, ML & AI, and Strategy with the academic community. They are also keen to give back to the College and University and as a first step are hoping to offer internships as part of the emerging Leadership, Enterprise and Adventure at Pembroke (LEAP) Programme.

Moreed's watchful gaze...

At the admission ceremony on Sunday, Tim signed the matriculation books under the watchful eye of our Praelector, Dr Moreed Arbabzadah, after a welcome from our Master, Lord Chris Smith. He was joined by family members and a host of Fellows with whom he has already made meaningful connections. After the celebratory dinner and speeches, we looked out of the windows to a wintry transformation that had taken place in the College – unexpectedly, snow had started to fall heavily and was settling quite deeply. Sadly we were all forced to start heading home earlier than wished before we were completely cut off. Enthusiastic conversations that had started needed to be paused, but we are looking forward to continuing them over the duration of what we trust will be a long and fruitful relationship.
