Gym Rules

  • Only those who have been granted access on their cards by the Tutorial Office after filling out the required forms are allowed to use the Pembroke College gym.
  • Guests are not permitted.
  • Use of the facilities and all sports equipment is undertaken entirely at the members' own risk and members must satisfy themselves that they have taken reasonable precautions. When training be sure not to overstrain yourself. Stop using the equipment and seek advice immediately if you feel unwell or any unusual strain whilst exercising. 
  • Appropriate footwear and clothing are to be worn for all sessions.
  • No food or drink, other than water, may be taken into the gym.
  • Equipment must be wiped down after each use.
  • All litter or drinking bottles and cartons should be placed in the waste bin provided.
  • Inspect equipment before each use for loose, worn or frayed parts. Check that wire ropes are not frayed or kinked and that pulleys rotate freely. Report any problems with the equipment to the Porter’s Lodge.
  • You may not use the gym whilst under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, tranquilizers or any medication or other substance which may affect your ability to exercise safely.
  • Please do not take photographs/videos unless permission is sought.
  • Members are solely responsible for their own belongings.
  • You should always make sure to warm up before using gym equipment.
  • You should always bring a towel.
  • If you use popular equipment during busy times, expect to use it briefly.
  • Music and noise must be kept to a reasonable level so as to not disturb others.
  • You must not block or interfere with the doors.
  • Inform the Porter’s Lodge of any injuries (01223 338100).
  • Familiarise yourself with the location of the emergency phone and first aid kit near the gym entrance prior to using the equipment.
  • Failure to abide by the rules may result in the suspension of access.
